As a consultant at Acuity Law, you can take hold of the reins and be in control whilst still working alongside employed lawyers. You will have the flexibility to work the hours that you dictate from a location that you choose. You will not have timesheets, management reporting lines or internal office duties. We understand that our lawyers will all have different priorities but, whatever they may be, we can offer a full-service platform from which you can build a career that fits with your lifestyle and your life goals. Our administrative team are well-equipped to help execute the process quickly and efficiently and will give you all you need to move across and set you up as and Acuity lawyer. They will help transfer and open client files and matters, deal with archiving and processing conflict checks so that your clients do not face any disruption in your service.
Once you’ve signed on the dotted line and are ready to start your journey with us, your onboarding will take place in our Cardiff office, overseen by our Talent team. You may have an idea of what to expect on your first day but at Acuity Law, our Talent team works hard to co-ordinate a tailored onboarding programme specifically for you and to provide you with a truly unique experience. You’ll have the opportunity to meet with some of our shareholders and key stakeholders together with their respective team members.
Our Marketing team will assist you with writing your website biography and updating your social media accounts such as LinkedIn. No first day is complete without some training – one of our Senior Administrators will demonstrate our document management system and use practical examples on how to use it, helping you to hit the ground running. Your laptop will also be remotely set-up by our IT team and all account details for our online legal know-how platforms will be provided.
Separately we appreciate that you may have concerns on cash flow as you transition to join us as an Acuity consultant and build your career with us. We can help if you do have any worries and are able to provide interest free financial support to assist in the early months.

It’s important to us that once you’ve joined Acuity Law, you feel that you are immediately part of a wider family.
We continuously encourage our employed and consultant lawyers to meet and collaborate. We hold half yearly Consultant Summits, bringing our consultants together to have an open round table discussion. The topics of discussion are in no way restricted and cover matters such as client referrals, analysis of finances, training and IT. Similarly, we are always striving to improve our service to consultants – if there’s anything we can better, we’ll actively do so. Other opportunities for consultants to network with one another and with the wider firm include (but not limited to):
Cross-selling and Referrals. Because we’re a full-service firm with a wide range of excellent expertise, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to cross-sell the business’s other services to your clients and refer matters to other fee-earners. We have a strong cross-selling and referral culture at Acuity Law not only because we have the luxury of being a full-service firm but because our consultants trust that their clients are in safe hands. We adopt a fair approach and make sure that you can capitalise on referrals, allowing you to profit on any fees charged to your client.
Professional Indemnity Insurance. The benefit of being a consultant is that you needn’t worry about spending time and money in dealing with the overheads or compliance aspect of running a law firm. We are pleased to say that our level of PII is significantly above the minimum level required and allows our employed and consultant lawyers to advise on large multi-million-pound transactions; a reflection of the quality and level of work we undertake.
Technology. We know many law firms pride themselves on having great technology however, at Acuity Law we really do have the finest modern technology and support to facilitate agile working. From cloud document storage facilities to 24/7 technology assistance to video conference calls with client and team members – our IT systems are unrivalled.
*Acuity Pod. We aim to provide our consultants with all the support they need when advising clients and this includes allowing consultants to use Acuity Law fee-earners where they need additional resource. So, considering this we devised Acuity Pod – a platform whereby consultants can hire Acuity Law fee-earners at a cost rate and charge that fee-earner to the client at the normal charge out rate. The difference is then shared between you and Acuity Law.
*Acuity Promote. We are proud to support our consultants and their businesses’ growth. One way in which we show this is by giving our consultants up to a maximum of £750 per year on a “match funds” basis. The contribution can be put towards marketing, travel and accommodation expenses relating to entertaining clients and attending events for example. What do we mean by on a “match funds” basis? Essentially, you’ll need to contribute an equal amount for each outgoing or expense – if fully utilised, you would have a total promotion fund of £1,500 each year.
When it comes to recruiting, we carefully select our consultants
We require all our consultants to be at partner or an equivalent level to join us. They will need to be talented, knowledgeable and technically excellent lawyers from City or national firms, with their own client base and dedicated to providing a first-class client service. We are looking to grow our existing areas of expertise, but we are also very interested in adding new disciplines to provide a greater holistic service to clients.
