Juliette Franklin is a Partner within our Employment Team.

She joined Acuity Law as a Legal Director in February 2022, having spent 20 years heading up a successful Employment team with Slater & Gordon (previously Russell Jones and Walker).

Juliette has practiced in employment and discrimination law for over two decades. She has notable expertise in dealing with complex discrimination cases under all strands of anti-discrimination legislation, with a particular interest in disability, sex and maternity discrimination matters and whistleblowing. Juliette has a keen interest in cases arising out of so-called hidden disabilities as well as associative and perceived discrimination.

She represented the Claimant in what was understood to the first perceived disability discrimination claim considered by the Tribunals, among several high-profile and ground-breaking cases she has handled. 

Juliette is very experienced in collective labour law issues and, in particular, in advising in redundancy situations. She has developed expertise in cases where employment law overlaps with civil claims, including claims for professional negligence arising from alleged sub-standard employment advice. Juliette has also developed a sound understanding of claims where there is an overlap between employment law and other areas relevant to the employment relationship – for example, advising on data protection issues within the employment relationship.

Juliette is a regular contributor to both the local and national press and delivers training to clients and fellow practitioners. She is often sought out to provide a legal insight on topical matters.

Juliette has been ranked by Chambers and Partners and The Legal 500 for over 14 years.

Work Highlights

Advising technology company Vista Retail Support Limited in dealing with an employee with serious mental health complications by mitigating risks, as well as on the exit of an employee on long-term sickness absence, facilitated via a settlement agreement.
Representing RTI Group Services Limited in a claim brought against them by a former director and employee who claimed unfair dismissal for having blown the whistle. The Claimants were seeking circa £500,000 in compensation and we were successful in defending most of the claims brought, meaning that our client was only required to pay circa £3500 to the two Claimants.
Providing employment law support to Portman Healthcare Limited, providing them with full support on all matters relating to their people.
Advising on a redundancy exercise at an international aerospace business.
Advising on a redundancy exercise at an international car manufacturing business.
Providing day-to-day employment advice to a national trade union, and providing representation in Tribunal proceedings.
Negotiating exit terms and drafting settlement agreements for and on behalf of senior executives.
Advising various employees of a leading public sector organisation on claims for perceived discrimination.
Advising on one of the first cases where the post termination duty to make reasonable adjustments (under the Equality Act 2010) was considered and established.
Delivering training to clients and to the Employment Lawyers Association.
