Rem Noormohamed appointed to Ofcom’s Advisory Committee for Wales

Ofcom today announced the appointment of Rem Noormohamed to the Advisory Committee for Wales.

Established by the Communications Act 2003, Ofcom’s national advisory committees provide advice to Ofcom on the interests and opinions of people living in the nations and regions of the UK on all communications matters.

Rem Noormohamed is a partner at leading commercial law firm Acuity Law and the head of its technology, media and telecommunications practice.

Rem is an expert in the field of intellectual property, information technology, data protection and communications law. He has national and international experience covering numerous sectors including financial services, fintech, manufacturing, retail, healthcare, life sciences and education, as well as central, devolved and local government.

Rem is a member of the United Nations Global Geospatial Information Management Working Group, tasked with developing a new international legal and policy framework for the use and management of geospatial information. In November 2018, he was appointed by the World Bank as a special adviser and expert on the application of blockchain for food supply chain traceability.

Hywel Wiliam, Chair of the Advisory Committee for Wales, said: “I look forward to welcoming Rem to our Advisory Committee for Wales. He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience of the telecoms industry, which will support the Committee in its primary role of advising Ofcom on the interests and opinions of people living in Wales.”

Rem Noormohamed said: “The opportunity to take on this new role at such an important time for Ofcom is an honour and a privilege. Improving communications for people and businesses, wherever they live and work, and the connectivity needs of Wales is vital in today's digital age. I'm looking forward to contributing to Ofcom’s valuable role in ensuring that everyone gets the most from their broadcasting and communications services.”

The appointment is for a three-year term and begins with immediate effect. Rem will attend his first meeting on 11 June.
