Employment – Regulatory Update.

The Employment Rights Act Resource Hub.

Talk to our Employment Team.

The Employment Rights Act marks the biggest shake up of UK employment law in a generation. It sits at the heart of the Government’s ‘New Deal for Working People’ and will change how employers manage their workforce for years to come.

At Acuity Law, our employment team is one of the leading in Wales, ranked Tier 1 by the Legal 500 and Band 2 by Chambers and Partners. We’re well placed to help you cut through the noise and put the right contracts, policies and procedures in place to stay compliant

There’s a lot to get to grips with. The measures will be introduced in stages, following a series of consultations, but the changes likely to have the biggest impact include:

  • Increased trade union rights
  • A reduced qualifying period for unfair dismissal claims
  • Unlimited unfair dismissal compensation
  • The introduction of the Fair Work Agency, with wide-ranging enforcement powers
  • Changes to collective redundancy consultation
  • Stricter requirements on employers to prevent sexual harassment
  • Employer liability for third-party harassment of employees
  • Restrictions on ‘fire and rehire’
  • Extended employment tribunal time limits

Below, we look at each of these areas in more detail, so you can identify where action is needed and stay ahead as things develop.

Full Implementation Timeline.

On 3 February the government published a revised timetable for implementation of the ERA. Whilst most of the timing remains unchanged from the roadmap published in July 2025, there are some notable changes, particularly in relation to the restrictions on fire and rehire, which move to January 2027. This is the first in a series of articles which will focus on which changes employers need to focus on to be ready for the new legal landscape.

We set out below the revised timetable for changes under the ERA and otherwise.
