Acuity Law Advises SGP Productions On Investment From VGC Partners

Key Contacts Phil Pugh & Tessa Laws

Acuity is pleased to have advised SPG Productions (trading as ‘Novel’) on its investment from VGC Partners. Novel is one of the biggest independent podcast companies in Europe, having released hit shows and gained industry recognition through being featured on the Best of 2022 lists, winning multiple British Podcast Awards, an ARIA, and New York Festival Radio award for ‘Harsh Reality’, and a Publisher Podcast Award for ‘Working It’.

VGC is a London-based venture capital fund focused on providing growth capital to innovative consumer, media, and tech companies that have identified untapped markets and are creating new products or experiences.

The multi-million-pound investment from VGC will be used to accelerate the company’s growth and to establish its own network of original IP.

Sean Glynn (CEO, Novel) said:

“At Novel, we’re proud to have built a thriving independent business. Now the time is right to take the skills we’ve honed working with industry-leading partners and apply them to content we fully own. We’ve recruited a highly experienced international team to deliver a rich and varied slate of original shows. The launch of our own originals network is an exciting new step for Novel and in VGC we’ve found a partner that truly believes in our content and our vision.”

Phil Pugh (Partner, Acuity) said:

“We are delighted to have worked with the Novel team on its Series A funding round. The number of people listening to podcasts has increased exponentially over the past few years and Novel is in a prime position as a market leader in this space. We look forward to the next great series from the team.“

Partners Tessa Laws and Phil Pugh led the transaction, with cross-departmental support from Chiara Howfield, Adam McGlynn and Benedetta Cocconi.
